If you’re like me, you have the desire to read the bible in its entirety but started and didn’t finish or had no clue where to even start. Every year, I’ve made a resolution to read the bible, but found that each year I start at Genesis 1:1 and don’t get past Exodus, only to do it all again the next year.
First, I’d like you to get yourself embedded into a good bible-based church. I’d be remiss if I didn’t toot my church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. This is not a promotion for the church, but more of a suggestion if you’re in North Texas and are looking for a church home or a place to visit.
The purpose of this article is to suggest a platform called The Bible Project. It is a free resource, again not a promotion and not sponsored, but they do take donations. In my fifty-some-odd years on this earth, this is the first time I understand the bible and it’s the closest I’ve been to God.
My first experience with this project was when I was homeschooling my granddaughter. We spent tons of money on bible curriculum, yet we could not find one that helped her understand the bible, and then there was the questionable content.
We initially started out with viewing videos on their YouTube channel. They break down each story, each book, each generation, each character, and more in bite-size pieces that make it easy for anyone to understand. For added convenience, they have a YouTube channel, mobile app, and website.
I have decided to do away with New Year’s resolutions but decided that I would challenge myself and start their Bible in a Year program. And, I have to say my family and I are enjoying it. I must first warn you that it is important that you stick with each daily assignment and get behind because you’re not going to be reading one chapter a day. You will read several chapters per day, along with a chapter of Psalm, being that it is the longest book in the bible. As you go along, there are short videos that explain genealogy and other aspects of the lesson.
It takes my family and me about twenty minutes max to go through the lesson each morning; it’s the first thing I do. If reading the bible in its entirety and understanding it is an issue for you, I highly recommend the program. They even have a podcast.
I love this platform and thank you to Timothy Mackie and Jonathan Collins for creating this platform.
